ALEX AZAR

HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES

From Wikipedia, about the department of Health and Human Services:

In 1979, the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare was renamed the Department of Health and Human Services, and its education functions and Rehabilitation Services Administration were transferred to the new Department of Education.

Another chapter in this book that has had to be rewritten due to vacancy and refilling. Like many other cabinet members in President Donald Trump’s administration, the Secretary of Health and Human Services has also been filled and emptied a couple of times.

This time, it is being filled by a former Deputy Secretary of the same department under George W. Bush’s watch. This person is Alex Azar, a former pharmaceutical company president and pharmaceutical board member lobbyist.

Alex Michael Azar II was born to a retired doctor in Pennsylvania in 1967 but attended high school in Maryland. His grandfather was a Lebanese immigrant.

He received high honors from Dartmouth in government and economics in 1988, and earned a law degree from Yale in 1991. While in college, he was a member of Kappa Kappa Kappa.

Upon graduation, he served as a law clerk and independent counsel for several firms for about twenty years, most notably for the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, for whom he worked one year.

In 2001, he held a high position with the Department of Health and Human Services under the presidency of George W. Bush. He was vigilant regarding safekeeping the public during anthrax attacks and other various outbreaks. He resigned six years later.

It was then that he went into the private market, being hired by the pharmaceutical Eli Lilly and Company to be its front man and lobbyist.

He was pressured to leave this position in the company for another position once Barack Obama became President of the United States of America, as the company wished for the position to belong to a Democrat.

In 2009, Azar’s Eli Lilly settled a criminal lawsuit for almost one and a half million dollars for its off-label promotions of the use of Zyprexa, an anti-psychotic.

Nevertheless, three years later, he was made President of one of the company’s arms, being responsible for all of the corporation’s doings within the U.S. Simultaneously, he was on the board of directors for another drug company lobby, Biotechnology Innovation Organization. Almost instantly, drug prices rose in 2012.

In 2017, he resigned from both positions.

Azar is married, has two kids, lives in Indianapolis, and is a registered Republican. He says his life goal is to help people live longer and healthier lives, but is against the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare). He is, however, for widespread knowledge on combating influenza.

It is strange and concerning that the person who is charge of our well-being, growth and recovery stands a chance at making a lot of money if he can get us and keep us sick so he can give us his pills.
